Catholic Bishops get a clue

Well, it's nice to see the American Catholic Bishops finally wake up. After years of kissing the posteriors of the Republican Party over the abortion issue they finally caught on to the fact that Republicans have other agendas--not all of which are consistant with Jesus's teachings. It's hard to love the poor when you're busy blaming them for the deficit and trying to take away what few benefits they get.

So now, they've sent a letter to Congress asking that the poor and downtrodden not be sacrificed in the name of deficit reduction. It's nice to see the Catholic Church get back to its core mission and not get so distracted by the Right To Life fringe that they forget to focus on some of the other things that make life livable, like food, medical care, shelter and lets not forget social justice.

Now that they can see what a Republican majority in the house is planning to do I hope they are rightfully embarrassed by their implicit "Vote Republican" message and get back to helping, not hurting the poor.
